Lovely Rustic French Antique Ironstone Green Transferware Flat Edge Hollow Soup Plate "Assiette Creuse" in French.  This model pattern is called "DATURA".   Made by famous French manufacturer of Earthware (Faiencerie) J.V & Cie JULES VIEILLARD, in Terre de Fer, circa mid to late 1800s in Bordeaux, France.

Jules way of business is crucial to the industrial successes of the plant in Bacalan, Bordeaux and he was applauded for the artistic quality of his products which were frequently called 'Vieillard' pottery. The commercial success of Vieillard earthenware is substantial, and comparable to the pottery factories of Creil-Montereau.

Stamped on the back of the plate by manufacturer J. VIEILLARD & Co "Datura, Bordeaux - J.V & Cie ". It has a typical mark of Bordeaux 'Scapulaire'. Le croissant : allusion à la forme semi-circulaire du port de la Lune.

--- Condition ---

They are overall in rustic vintage condition. As this plate has had a previous life, there are signs of age and usage such as pattern bleeding and fading in certain spots, manufacturing marks and surface marks/ bumps from the glazing process, there are areas around the edges of wearing down of the protection glaze or tiny marks where there is no varnish (surface not smooth), utensil marks in the surface, there is various levels of surface crazing on the each plates and several areas of discoloration as shown in the photo collages. Please ask me if you are unsure. PLEASE use ZOOM to review closely the detail and condition of the plates especially the photo collages.

**Special Note about aged Porcelain**
If you are not accustomed to this ‘look’, google crazing and the aging process of porcelain. The Japanese use crazing to add an artistic look to their pieces whereas antiques go through the natural aging process. Crazing is cracking in the surface of the plate due to use sometimes it's even and is called the crackle look and other times it is random.

These items are old, were used and were manufactured at a time when processes were less under control as today. Therefore, in addition to the defects identified and reported in the ad, slight dimensional differences or deviations in the color or in the decoration between the different parts could be noted. Besides, some little marks or small manufacturing imperfections such as minor defects in the glaze or in the varnish etc., may also be observed.
