Lovely French Vintage Antique Ironstone Green Transferware ("Faience" in French) Covered Serving Piece, Soup Tureen, Vegetable Dish and "Soupiere" or "Légumière" in French. Made by famous French maker of Earthware Faience "DIGOIN SARREGUEMINES" France, in Terre de Fer, circa late 1800s (1885 - 1890). The style of the pattern is similar to the famous Fontanges motif although you can not longer see the name in the stamp.
Stamped on the bottom «DIGOIN & SARREGUEMINES».
It's difficult to find this pattern in this color. You can more easily find the red and sometimes the blue.
--- Condition ---
In lovely rustic vintage condition. Given the age and heavy usage, there are lovely imperfections and decorative blemishes such as some pattern bleeding, green ink marks/ heavy fading in certain areas on the surface, manufacturing marks and surface spots, manufacturing /glazing marks on the surface, there are areas around the edges of wearing down of the protection glaze or tiny marks where there is no varnish (surface not smooth), areas of surface crazing and discoloration and there is 1 area where there is a chip on the inner bottom foot of the piece but this doesn't interfere with the function of the piece (not visible when on display) as shown in the photos. Please ask me if you are unsure. PLEASE use ZOOM to review closely the detail and condition of the plates.
**Special Note about aged Porcelain**
If you are not accustomed to this ‘look’, google crazing and the aging process of porcelain. The Japanese use crazing to add an artistic look to their pieces whereas antiques go through the natural aging process. Crazing is cracking in the surface of the plate due to use sometimes it's even and is called the crackle look and other times it is random.
These items are old, were used and were manufactured at a time when processes were less under control as today. Therefore, in addition to the defects identified and reported in the ad, slight dimensional differences or deviations in the color or in the decoration between the different parts could be noted. Besides, some little marks or small manufacturing imperfections such as minor defects in the glaze or in the varnish etc., may also be observed.
