Charming rustic French Vintage glazed terracotta/sandstone/enameled stoneware gratin fondue pot with handle and pourer in the style of Vallauris (not stamped). In French this is called "Poelons en terre cuites vernissée" This pattern is typically ALSACE SOUFFLENHEIM and is stamped 20 on the bottom which means it's 20 cm in diameter and capacity.

The brown stoneware is decorated with white flowers (daisy) surrounded by a green design and yellow interior. This traditional container is used for cooked items that need to be melted like fondue and is called a caquelon. The glazed ceramic pot with thick handle, squat, broad shape and handle with hole in the center is designed so that the bottom and sides heat evenly, which helps prevent the cheese from scorching.

This can be used for cooking or use your imagination as it's great for your unique interior design needs. It has lots of charm!!

--- Condition ---

In lovely vintage condition given it's age. There are marks of usage, age marks in the varnish and manufacturing spots from the glazing process and lovely age crackle crazing from other firing process, the brown color has some color contrast of blue in the patina which really adds to it's charm and the bottom of the pot shows signed of being on the fire for cooking. All the decorative blemishes are shown in the photos, please use ZOOM to see with more precision.

Special Note about aged Porcelain:
If you are not accustomed to this ‘look’, google crazing and the aging process of porcelain. The Japanese use crazing to add an artistic look to their pieces whereas antiques go through the natural aging process.
