1960s ~ French Vintage BARBOTINE Majolica Green & Cream Oyster "Huître" Shellfish Plate with 6 Wells ~ Basket Weave Pattern ~ Made in France

Lovely French Vintage Barbotine Majolica Style Cream Oyster Shellfish Plate/Platter "Assiette Huître" in French. This heavy sturdy thick potted plate is decorated white embossed basket weave pattern 6 oyster shell shaped wells (recessed area) and hollow enter for enjoying your favorite seafood "Fruits de Mer" with your loved one. It is most commonly used for Oysters and is a French tradition to serve them for family holidays with lemon and vinegar. 

It is not stamped by the manufacturer but is identical to oyster services made by Sarreguemines, Gien and Longchamp.

In lovely rustic vintage condition given the age.  There are signs of usage such as some pattern bleeding/ ink marks/fading in certain spots on the surface, manufacturing marks and surface spots, manufacturing /glazing marks on the surface, there are areas around the edges of wearing down of the protection glaze or tiny marks where there is no varnish (surface not smooth) especially in the serving wells, decorative age crackle/crazed glazed surface and

Plate N#2 & N#4 have a tiny chip on front edge or inner shell.                                        Plate N#6 & N#8 have a visible chip on the front center brown serving well edge.

**Special Note about aged Porcelain**
If you are not accustomed to this ‘look’, google crazing and the aging process of porcelain. The Japanese use crazing to add an artistic look to their pieces whereas antiques go through the natural aging process.

These items are old, were used and were manufactured at a time when processes were less under control as today. Therefore, in addition to the defects identified and reported in the ad, slight dimensional differences or deviations in the color or in the decoration between the different parts could be noted. Besides, some little marks or small manufacturing imperfections such as minor defects in the glaze or in the varnish etc., may also be observed.

I ship using Colissimo (La Poste International service) which includes tracking. minimum insurance and estimated delivery dates (which is normally faster than the processing times in my policy section).
