The illustrations were works of Henri Loux (pronounced “louxe”) between 1904 and 1906. There were original 52 different traditional scenes from Alsace with lovely unique colors known in the region featuring Lions Head Handles and knob on the lid is the design of a flower.

The idea of these pots was to prepare the foie gras in the oven in pots of different sizes depending on how many you are serving. In France, the paté of choice is its famous 'Foie Gras', made from goose livers. There is a little hole in the knob on the top to let the steam out. There was a time that no French kitchen would be without these pots but today if you can find them at all, they are used for storing herbs, spices and more.

--- Condition ---

In lovely rustic vintage condition. As they have all had previous lives, there are signs of age and usage such as pattern bleeding and fading in certain spots, manufacturing marks and surface marks/ bumps from the glazing process (surface not smooth), there are areas around the edges of wearing down of the protection glaze or tiny marks browning and areas where there is no varnish (chipping), there is some areas of decorative surface crazing from the firing process, there are some areas of discoloration and the lids slide as they don't fit perfectly as they didn't shrink enough during the firing process as shown in the photo collages. Please ask me if you are unsure. PLEASE use ZOOM to review closely the detail and condition of the plates especially the photo collages.

**Special Note about aged Porcelain**
If you are not accustomed to this ‘look’, google crazing and the aging process of porcelain. The Japanese use crazing to add an artistic look to their pieces whereas antiques go through the natural aging process. Crazing is cracking in the surface of the plate due to use sometimes it's even and is called the crackle look and other times it is random.

These items are old, were used and were manufactured at a time when processes were less under control as today. Therefore, in addition to the defects identified and reported in the ad, slight dimensional differences or deviations in the color or in the decoration between the different parts could be noted. Besides, some little marks or small manufacturing imperfections such as minor defects in the glaze or in the varnish etc., may also be observed. Please take a look at photos and use zoom for detail.
