Lovely Rustic lot of 5 French Vintage hammered saucepans made in pure aluminum with pouring spouts and handles in wood with hooks on the ends allowing them to suspend as you wish. The handles are fastened with 3 silver bolts and each is certified by the famous Coppersmiths by stamp near the handles as "L.(Lucien) Lecellier - LL Villedieu" in a circle with an open book which is a symbol of the Corporation of Coppersmiths of Villedieu a town in Normandy.
A piece of Lecellier is the work of a family with centuries of history in Villedieu. The majority can be traced back to Lucien Lecellier and his eponymous 20th-century chaudronnerie. He took the reins of the family company from his father in the 1930s, survived World War II, and rode the wave of US and international interest in French copper in the 1960s. Based on my research of the stamp, I believe it is one of his earlier works and from the period in the 1930s
Although I do not see a reason why these can not be used for cooking but I have used them simply for decoration thus can attest to the function of these pots. I say these are Rare as I have only seen these pans made in copper not hammered aluminum.
--- Condition ---
In good vintage condition however these have definitely been used through the years as there are some small scratches, bumps, some traces of oxidization and some cracking in the wood on 2 or 3 of the handles as shown in the pictures. The wood pieces in the handles are a little loose on some of the pots and can be turned but are still securely fastened to the aluminum and not at risk of coming off or interrupting the function of the pots. They have been cleaned (rust free) and shined to enhance their charm and beauty. Please take a look at the photos closely and use zoom for detail (I highlighted the decorative blemishes in the collage photos).
