Style

Charming Rustic French Antique Ironstone Blue Transferware Serving Piece (Oval Serving Plate, Round Serving Plate 29 cm & Round Serving Plate 27 cm) "Assiette' in French.  The lovely model is called "Marsala" and made by famous French manufacturer of Earthware (Faiencerie) "GIEN" France, in Terre de Fer, circa late 1800s.

They are uniquely decorated by blue transfer on white/ivory ironstone with flowers and vine draped around the edges of the piece. Each are stamped and marked in blue : « MARSALA » surrounded by vines - engraved TERRE DE FER.

I have 2 round serving plates and 0 large oval serving plate. Add a touch of French chic to your home by using this as a centerpiece in any room or when serving at a dinner party.

PLEASE NOTE: I have 2 different serving plates (Oval Serving Plate SOLD OUT, Round Serving Plate 29 cm & Round Serving Plate 27 cm) left in stock  but this listing price is for 1 ONE plate.  This listing is programmed to allow you to select the plate you wish to purchase.

I have other pieces in this pattern sold separately. On my shop home page, enter MARSALA in the search field.

--- Condition ---

In lovely vintage condition considering it's age. There are lovely imperfections such as manufacturing/glazing marks on the surface, pattern fading/bleeding in areas (rainbow of blues in areas). minor utensil marks/scratches on the surface, the larger round plate has 3-4 visible small brown spots on the front surface and the smaller round plate has a small hairline crack on the front surface and faint signs of crazing on the back corner (not visible from the front) as shown in the photos. There are no cracks or chips. PLEASE use ZOOM to review the detail especially for the photo collages.

**Special Note about aged Porcelain**
If you are not accustomed to this ‘look’, google crazing and the aging process of porcelain. The Japanese use crazing to add an artistic look to their pieces whereas antiques go through the natural aging process. Crazing is cracking in the surface of the plate due to use sometimes it's even and is called the crackle look and other times it is random.

These items are old and were manufactured and used in a time period when processes were not as sophistication, mechanical or controlled as they are today. Therefore, in addition to the defects identified and documented in my listing, there are slight dimensional differences/deviations in the color/decoration between the different patterns and some little marks or small manufacturing imperfections such as minor defects in the glaze or in the varnish. Each plate is not identically the same which to me is art and shows it's history.
