1960s ~ French Vintage BARBOTINE Majolica Red Oyster Shellfish "Huître" Platter Plate with 6 & 12 Wells ~ Basket Weave Pattern

Lovely French Vintage Barbotine Majolica Style RED Oyster Shellfish Platter Plate "Assiette Plat Huître". This heavy sturdy thick potted plate is decorated with 6 or 12 shell shaped wells (recessed area) and hollow center for enjoying your favorite seafood "Fruits de Mer" with your loved one. It is most commonly used for Oysters and is a French tradition to serve them for family holidays with lemon and vinegar.

PLEASE NOTE: I have 8 Plates in Total (1 Larger Platter 12 wells & 7 Serving Plates 6 wells) but this listing is for 1 ONE Plate/Platter. The listing is programmed to allow you to select a quantity you wish to purchase.

--- Measurements & Weight---

Approximately...Platter 12 wells:  33 cm x 3 cm & 1950 grams  &  Serving Plate 6 wells:   24 cm x 2.5 cm & 750 grams each not including packaging weight.

--- Condition ---

In lovely rustic vintage used condition given the age there are certainly signs of usage such as some fading in certain spots on the surface, manufacturing marks and surface spots, manufacturing /glazing marks on the surface (more visible spots on the back of the plates identical), there are areas around the edges of wearing down of the protection glaze or tiny marks where there is no varnish (surface not smooth) from stacking the plates, age crackle/crazed glazed surface, the large Platter as some wear chipping in the varnish red surface from stacking on 1 of the wells, Plate N#6 has a tiny chip on the side edge and Plate N#7 has small chipping from stacking in several areas as shown in the photos collages. These items are old, were previously used and were manufactured at a time when processes were less under control as today. Therefore, in addition to the defects identified and reported in the listing, slight dimensional differences or deviations in the color or in the decoration between the different parts could be noted. Besides, some little marks or small manufacturing imperfections such as minor defects in the glaze or in the varnish etc., may also be observed.

**Special Note about aged Porcelain**
If you are not accustomed to this ‘look’, google crazing and the aging process of porcelain. The Japanese use crazing to add an artistic look to their pieces whereas antiques go through the natural aging process. Crazing is cracking in the surface of the plate due to use sometimes it's even and is called the crackle look and other times it is random.
